Tasmanian winegrowers consider themselves blessed: at their fingertips is the cleanest air in the world, the purest mountain water and the four distinct seasons of the mid-southern latitudes to produce premium quality wines for a world market. Less than half an hour drive from the centre of Launceston is Tasmania's premier wine growing area - the Tamar Valley. Here you'll find the orchard, farms and wineries for which Tasmania is famous.
The Tamar Valley Wine Route is a food and wine experience covering 24 vineyards (extending as far south as Relbia, west to Rowella, and east to Pipers River). Award winning cool climate wines range from Sparkling wines through to Riesling, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay to our renowned Pinot Noir. Each vineyard and cellar door has its own special charm and character; many are small and family-owned, others state of the art wine rooms.
If you're looking for expert Tamar Valley wine knowledge from a local wine enthusiast, full or half day chauffeur driven vineyard tours are available through Valleybrook Wine Tours. Or if you're planning a longer stay in the region, allow at least 2 to 3 days to visit the vineyards, fine restaurants and many other attractions in the area. Pamper yourself with the luxury of the top resorts or stay in friendly B&Bs, at luxury vineyard accommodation in Rosevears, or individual cottages full of charm.
