The Pipers River and nearby Pipers Brook farming areas are now the centre of Tasmania's premier wine-growing district; the Tamar Valley Wine Route.

Although the industry is small, and new by national standards, the wines produced within the region are acknowledged as among the best in Australia. Major new development is following international investment, ensuring the continued growth of the industry in this area. Many of the wineries are open to visitors, or have wine rooms, where you can often meet the makers and enjoy the latest vintage, accompanied by a platter of local cheeses.

Pipers River graveyard at St Albans Church is of local historic interest. Trail bike tracks and horse riding are located in a reserve adjacent to the village, and there's a tennis court. Fuel and everyday groceries are available in Pipers River.
